The tree said, “I am dying, lay me down.
Before the pain of losing my limbs,
Before my heart hollows,
Lay me down.
My wood is not bright but stained with age.
Through time and storm, I have not broken.
My trunk bears the marks of perseverance and wisdom of life experienced.
With age comes beauty.
My wood now shines and shimmers.
Take my trunk, make something beautiful. Remember me, as beauty, not ashes.”
I laid the tree down, took the wood.
I made this vessel to rest my ashes when I say, “Listen to the trees, lay me down.”
